Lorentzian % – Excessive

Example of excessive % of Lorentzian peak-shape. The Lorentzian tails extend far beyond actual data.

Example of Lorentzian correctly used for Gas Phase XPS on a Beam line
Gas phase spectra allow the true peak shape to be observed.

For gas phase the correct peak-shape depends mainly on the shape of the X-ray source which is Lorentzian.

The collection lens and the hemi-sphere analyzer add a Gaussian peak-shape to the electron distribution as they fly through the lens and the HSA.

The solid state induces a small change in the peak-shape.
